Disciplinary Positioning.Mechanical Engineering is the main first-level discipline master's degree program of the School of Mechanical Engineering at Yangtze University. It was granted the authority to confer master's degrees in "Mechanical Design and Theory" in 1993 and the authority to confer master's degrees in the first-level discipline in 2011. This discipline was a key discipline of the former China National Petroleum Corporation and a key (characteristic) discipline of Hubei Province, and it leads the construction of the provincial advantageous and characteristic discipline cluster "Intelligent Oil and Gas Equipment." The degree program takes "oil and gas equipment" as its distinctive feature while also covering the mainstream directions of mechanical engineering, and it is the core support of the school's disciplinaryconstruction.
Research Directions.Four training directions are established: Mechanical Design and Theory, Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation, and Oilfield Machinery. The specific research fields cover modern design theories and methods, mechanical structures and strength, mechatronic system simulation and diagnosis, modern drilling and production machinery design, new energy vehicles, mechanical manufacturing and control technology, oil and gas equipment safety engineering, and others.
Training Characteristics and Supporting Conditions.Based on the petroleum industry, over more than 40 years the degree program has achieved domestically leading and internationally advanced scientific research results in oil and gas drilling equipment and downhole tools, oil and gas development solid control and fracturing equipment, offshore modular drilling and workover rigs and other equipment research, autofrettage methods for high-pressure components, fatigue life assessment of oil and gas pipe and rod strings, and other technical methods, and has produced significant economic and social benefits in engineering applications. The school has 13 national and provincial/ministerial teaching and research platforms, including the Mechanical Branch of the National Key Laboratory of Low-Carbon Catalysis and Carbon Dioxide Utilization, the Hubei Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for Oil and Gas Drilling and Completion Tools, and the Hubei Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Mechanical Engineering Training, providing strong support for graduate training.
